Scania 83M Water Tender Ladder

One of a batch of nine Type ‘B’ Water Tender Ladders ordered by Strathclyde Fire Brigade and bodied by Fulton and Wylie of Irvine

The appliance went on the run as the first appliance at Station E02, Motherwell in 1987.

In 1994 it was replaced by L715 UGA and was reallocated to the Retained station at Douglas, where it served until 1998 when it became an E Division spare before being disposed of.

In the 2003 National Fire Service Strike the appliance was given to the Armed Forces by the Government and these appliances were called ‘Red Goddesses’ by the media. When the strike finished it went back to being a spare before being disposed of in 2004. It was put up for sale and purchased by its present owner Alex Naismith who has restored the machine back to its original full working condition.

This appliance has a six man Crew Safety Cab and is fitted with an 8.5 litre SAAB diesel engine with 210 bhp which drives the appliance via a five speed manual gear box. The fuel tank has a capacity of 130 litres (29 gallons) The water tank holds 1800 litres (400 gallons) of water and this can feed the 500gpm Godiva Fire Pump UMPX 50 which is located in the pump locker at the rear of the appliance
