Rossie Priory 6-Man Manual Pump & The Merryweather Connection

In January 2013 members of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue Preservation Group were present at Rossie Priory for the official hand over, from the Hon. Mrs. Caroline Best, daughter of the late Lord Kinnaird, of a 6-Man Manual Horse Drawn Pump.

This was manufactured and supplied by Hadley, Simpkin & Lott, of Long Acre, London probably prior to the completion of the construction of the Priory in 1820.

The Hon. Mrs. Caroline Best categorically confirms that the pump was definitely housed at the Priory in that year, but could have been present earlier, possibly being delivered during the final years of construction of the Priory which took place between 1798 and 1820.

In actual fact, this historically unique pump may have been on site anytime between 1815 and 1820.
