Moses Merryweather, later of Merryweather & Sons Fire Appliance fame, nephew by marriage of Henry Lott, joined the company as a 14 year old apprentice in 1807, therefore it is quite probable that Moses Merryweather worked on the Rossie Priory Pump as a young journeyman ? hence this Fire Appliance is possibly unique.

By the middle 1830?s Henry Lott was the senior partner, and on the marriage of his daughter, Sarah, to Moses Merryweather in 1836, the company changed hands, and became known as Merryweather.

Not long after the Great Exhibition in 1851, Merryweather Fire Appliances were world renowned, and the company went from strength to strength, eventually becoming Merryweather & Sons in the later part of the 19th century when Moses three sons joined the company.

The iconic name of Merryweather & Sons continued in business until 1999.
