Greenock Fire Station 1887 - 1960

The old Fire Station became a storage area for many of the Greenock Council departments. In recent years though, it did indeed play host again to some vintage fire appliances following the formation of the Strathclyde Fire Brigade Preservation Group in 1995.

Each year, many of the preservation groups members would descend on the fire station with brushes, mops and huge amounts of elbow grease to clean up the station up as much as possible. The Group staged many successful and well attended "Doors Open Days" within the old Fire Station.

Several of our vintage appliances would be on show along with steam powered fire pumps and lots of other related memorabillia

The doors open days were very popular events giving visitors a gimpse into the history and heritage of the Scottish Fire Service.
