Greenock Fire Station 1887 - 1960

This is just a glimpse of how the old Greenock Fire Station looked before the restoration work commenced.

That work is now entering its final stages and some of the major exhibits for the museum have already been moved into position.

After many years of talking and really dreaming about the Museum Project, it is with great pride that members of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue Preservation Group are now spending busy working weekends down in Greenock. Everyone is working feverously but methodically to get the job done.

It was fantastic to see the hard work finally paying off and everyone in Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Inverclyde Council and of course the Heritage Trust are looking forward to the "Doors Opening" on the Fire Museum and Heritage Centre.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Heritage Trust are most grateful, to the then Chief Officer BP Sweeney and the Board of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service who have financed the museum project.

Without their help and enthusiastic support this valuable educational resource and visitor attraction would not be a reality. The museum finally opened to the public on June 28th 2012 and has already attracted significant international interest.

Many retired members and their families have donated items of personal and sentimental value to the museum in the form of helmets, uniforms, medals, etc. These items along with the other exhibits will bring the old station "back to life".
